Analysis of two Front covers of existing music magazines

Analysis of first music magazine front cover

The theme of this picture is the band members breaking through glass, the cover also has 'Kings Of Leon Breakthrough' writen underneath it. This is suggesting that the Kings Of Leon have had a brakethrough and are becoming successful, this is shown very effectively by them shown breaking through the glass with eager and etermination shown in their facial expressions. The posistion of the band members is based around the member at the front who is kicking through the glass. The band's orientation are all the same, they are all looking directly a the camera.

Their posture is slightly bent forward, the member second on the left has his arm protecing his face from the broken glass. As for their proxemics, they are all close to eachother but are not touching, they are interlocked, this shows that they are a group of freinds, they are in eachothers personal space but arent facing eachother, so are comfortable looking.

The colours used on the front cover, the lighting, the clothing and the broken glass all give off an urban feeling even though Kings Of Leon's music doesn't suggest that. The clothes they are wearing are either grey or black. But the main text is very bold and reflects the band's success and 'breakthrough.'

Analysis of second music magazine front cover

This is the christmas edition of NME, on the front cover is Simon Cowell. Simon Cowell is well known for being the judge on the X-Factor who speaks his mind and can be seen as nasty by some people. The title of his interview is called 'The grinch speaks' which suits the christmas theme becuase in the film 'Grinch' the grinch is seen as the evil or nasty face of christmas. On the front cover Simon Cowell is glaring straight into the camera with his head slighty tilted forward with a evil grin on his face, he is also wearing dark makeup, or the picture has been edited to make his face look more evil and tinted. This evil image of Simon Cowell is contrasted by the backround which is white and grey with snow flakes falling in the backround. This normally represents happiness and christmas time. As for the clothes he is wearing he is wearing what he is known for, the white shirt with a few buttons undone. Finally there are no props used in this image as the focus is mainly on Simon Cowell and his evil glare.
