Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions in media are used because they are successful. Magazines like mine aren’t necessarily copying others by the layout we use, the layout works and is therefore seen as the norm (i.e. having a masthead at the top of the page and having a main image). By abiding by these conventions I think it shows that I have a secure understanding of how existing media texts are constructed and how they communicate with an audience. However some magazines are more conventional than others, magazines like NME tend to always keep to the conventions. However other magazines like art magazines or fashion magazines may be less conventional as they want to look different and that is what their audience may want to see.

The genre of my magazine is mainly indie/rock but also includes music genres such as Dubstep, Dance, house, rap, techno. So it basically appeals to a large majority of young adults.
