Evaluation: Question 7

Before and After

My final piece contents page I think is my best of my three final pieces as I think it is quite professional looking. I took alot of time making sure that everything was perfectly lined up using the photoshop ruler tool which I didn't know how to use properly when creating my preliminary task contents page. Again the main colours I used are purple and black as this is the colour scheme I used throughout my magazine. Similarly to my front cover magazine I used the same font and alot of space reduction to make the contents page look very neat and professional, I also used layers to a good effect on my contents page which I didn't know how to use at all when making my preliminary piece which I think shows how much my photoshop skills have actually improved.

Evaluation: Question 7

Before and After

This comparison between my preliminary task and my final piece shows how much I have improved on photoshop. On the front cover of my preliminary task everything is very simple, the font used is very basic and the colour scheme does not work at all. The colour of the text which says 'College party dates' clashes with the colour of Adam's T-Shirt. As for the front cover of my final piece, I used a more professional font 'Impact' which I think looks better, the colour scheme works, I have used Purple, Black and yellow as the main colours and I have also used grey. The colours do not clash with each other like they do on my preliminary task front cover. On my final piece I used space reduction on the text to make it look neater and add style to the front cover, I also used rulers to make everything look neat. In comparison to this my preliminary task front cover is very messy and Un-professional looking because I was new to photoshop and didn't know how to use these devices. On my final piece I also used layers to a good effect which I didn't know how to use before when making my preliminary task cover.

Breakdown of cast, props, setting, location report for magazine

Cast:

Sophia Mcormac (front cover, contents page, double page spread)
Ross Neal (contents page)
Tom Perry (contents page)

Props:

Wesc yellow headphones
'Beats' by Dr.Dre headphones
Ray Ban wayfarers

Setting and location:

I deliberately chose a room with a white backround to take the photo because I knew I wanted a white backround on my front cover and the room I took the photo in was white so that would be easier for me to crop Sophia out of the picture and put her on my front cover.

Evaluation: Question 6

What have I learnt?
Since my preliminary task to create a college magazine I have learnt alot on Photoshop. When taking my photo for my front cover I took into account the camera angle and what position in which she was standing. I used a medium-close shot and I wanted to have her in the middle of the screen so I could put the features and titles around her body in the white space. I used an eye level angle and I shot from a distance that would allow me to show her from the waist up so my target audience would notice her clothing style and this helps to attract my target audience and interests them into thinking this is the magazine for them.
Advantages/Disadvantages
When it came to photoshop at first I found it very hard to use and the tutorials and help toolbar weren't very helpful. However as I got used to the program it was pretty straight forward. Another disadvantage I came across was on Blogger, sometimes the program would not upload photos when I wanted too, so I would have to hold work back. Another Issue with blogger I had was the copy/paste problem when trying to copy work done in microsoft word and inserting it into a blog.

Evaluation: Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that the major publisher Bauer may be likely to publish my magazine because they don't publish any other magazine simular to mine. True they publish Kerrang but that has a different target audience than my music magaine, so my magazine could interest them because they would make more money from it.
The advantages of partnering up with a large publisher is the publisher will widen my distribution of my magazine, it would also make me more money. However some disadvantages include my 'editor independence,' with a large publisher I would not have as freedom as to what features in my magazine. Another disadvantage would include that the publisher would have me focus as much on advertisements as I do on my own audience in order to maxamise profits.

As for IPC I think they would be less likely to publish my
magazine because they publish NME. Although my magazine is different to NME it is still more simular to NME than it is to Kerrang. My magazine and NME's focus on some simular bands and a simular type of music wheras Kerrang focus on a completely different genre of music. Therefore there is a gap in Bauer's company where they could make money from, which could be my magazine. IPC Media already make money from NME which is more simular to my magazine so that would be my rival If i were with Bauer.
